this is another cravity post sorry!
seongmin/hyeongjun is not something i'd say I'm personally extremely interested in but i wrote out my thoughts on both seongmin and hyeongjun out for crystal, so i decided to compile them here for future reference :)
hyeongjun
i feel like my understanding of hyeongjun is based mainly on crystal's fics and all the cravity park's i've watched (which in theory should leave me in a good position but hey... i don't know!)
hyeongjun to me seems like someone who really knows how to perform his role. like in the canon context its obviously his role as an idol but i think it could work in other contexts too. like when hyeongjun knows the role he has in a group, he can play it really well and confidently, whether its being the leader or the youngest or the goofy one. he's very confident and has a natural charismatic draw to him, the "it" factor you know?
although i know some characterizations paint him as kinda silly or dumb or going with the flow rather than thinking too deeply, i think theres a certain layer of thoughtfulness/calculation behind his actions. like maybe he talks a bit faster than he thinks but when it comes to doing things i believe he is more calculated. hes also really good at not showing his calculative-ness if that makes sense? i think hes able to use his "dumb" impression to cover the fact that hes really thinking hard about the weight of his actions/words, whether this is in a positive or negative way
i dont think hyeongjun is a villain, although in my own fic that he is in, i kinda put him in that position lol. i think he has potential to work as a villain in general because hes confident, hes very self-motivated and he can be a bit calculating but i would interpret him more as a person whos prone to making mistakes and is just trying to figure himself out of the situations he lands himself in.
i think hes a bit similar to my interpretation of minhee that way... i think hes self-motivated or he cares about his own needs first but not in a malicious way, just in the way where some of the needs/feelings of the people around him might be overlooked? or hes not 100% in tune w others thoughts/feelings. on the other hand, he can be very expressive of his surface wants/needs but he can hold a lot of his deeper thoughts/feelings inside, which is an interesting juxtapositon. i think hyeongjun can be hesitant to share those feelings he holds close, even with the people that he trusts a lot.
seongmin
i think theres quite a few layers to seongmin which im sure many people would agree. he seems to have like a "mean" side and a "soft" side and ill try to break it down that way.
to me seongmin's mean side is both his way of joking/bantering with people hes close with and also maintaining a certain distance from them? like he has to be comfortable enough with someone to play mean with them and for both parties to know he doesnt mean it, but theres also a different side to it where i think he can't always express physical affection comfortably (i wonder if this is towards people who are similar age/younger to him?) so he has to use this banter method to express his affection... after thinking about it again i also think that the people he uses his mean side with also dont prefer physical affection? so this is sorta their way to bridge the gap (so for example, seongmin and wonjin are very similar in this way)
sometimes seongmin also uses his soft side as a cover, just like hyeongjun but in a different way. hyeongjun uses his soft/dumb impression when he needs to manipulate the other person to achieve his own goals (not necessarily in the evil way but yknow!) but i think seongmin uses his soft side when hes unsure of how to interact with the other person or he wants to present a good side of himself to them
i do think that this whole mean-soft parallel exists because he appeals to interacts with different people differently. for example hes very sweet to allen and serim, people who are older than him, but he banters a lot with like taeyoung cuz theyre the same age and hyeongjun and wonjin bc they have the personalities who will tolerate the mean side/don't always prefer physical affection?
i think theres a part of seongmin that is also kinda self conscious/insecure, as kinda hinted at with the use of his softer side to present himself in a good light. i feel like seongmin might be insecure sometimes, in canon i would say its because he has to measure up to everyone else in the group which is an extremely high standard yknow but over time hes gotten better with it? i actually noticed this while watching a bunch of gas pedal and vvv and adrenaline stages but i believe seongmin sings live the least amongst all the members, which could just be his personal preference and im not judging his vocal skill, i just think this could be a detail that supports this interpretation
another difference between him and hyeongjun that i noticed too is that i think he would be more open to sharing his thoughts? like he might not be jumping to share his feelings but if hes around people he trusts and he needs to get it off his chest, he would feel okay doing so and he doesnt shy away from these thoughts/discussions as much as hyeongjun does
i don't have a lot of thoughts in particular about their specific dynamic, but i do think that they're an interesting combination that can best be described as kind of awkward. they both like to be "babied" or like treated as the younger one or doted on but in their relationship, i guess hyeongjun would have to step up as the older one? but their age gap isn't big enough to justify that full hyung-dongsaeng relationship. so it puts them in this awkward position where they don't exactly interact as same aged friends but they're also not really hyung-dongsaeng. this is also likely why they aren't very affectionate towards each other in comparison to how they act with other older members.
i'm really not going to do anything about this i'm just archiving these thoughts here
